Starting the Investigation for Captain Brant
The Nameless Village is a pivotal main quest in Dragon's Dogma 2, assigned by Captain Brant in Vernworth. After you have completed the initial Sovereign quest, return to the tavern at night and ask him about the "false Sovran." Brant will direct you to the eastern fringes of Vermund to uncover the source of a mysterious shipment linked to the imposter.
Before departing, prepare your inventory. The journey involves a significant trek through wilderness areas where you may encounter formidable foes, such as the Minotaur. Stock up on Salubrious Droughts for healing and ensure you have a Camping Kit, as the road to the village is not entirely straightforward.
Navigating to the Nameless Village
To reach your destination, exit Vernworth via the northern gate and follow the main road east. You will encounter several forks; ensure you are heading toward the eastern edge of the map. As you approach the village, you will find the main road blocked by a massive rockslide.
Tip
Do not attempt to clear the rocks. Instead, look for a path leading into the greenery to the south/east of the blockade. This route will take you through the Eastern Forest and eventually lead you back to the main road on the other side of the obstacle.
While navigating the forest, you may encounter a Minotaur. Community reports suggest that instead of attempting to climb the beast—which often results in being bucked off—you should maintain distance. Fighters can use their shields to mitigate damage, while Archers can exploit the terrain by jumping between higher ground levels to stay out of reach.
The Thief-Maister and the Village Depths
Once you arrive at the village, explore the area to gather supplies. Your primary objective is the old manor at the northern end of the village. Inside, you will encounter an NPC posing as the thief-maister. Speaking with him will grant you the Legend's Opus, which unlocks the "Blades of the Pyre" skill for the Thief vocation.
However, this is only the beginning. To truly complete the quest and uncover the secrets of the false Sovran, you must find the real thief-maister.
Exit the manor and walk to the left (west) side of the building.
Locate the hidden hole in the ground leading to the Nameless Village Depths.
Perform the platforming challenge: traverse the seesaw-like wooden platforms.
Use the Thief’s "Dash" ability or the "Footpad" core skill to reach difficult areas.
Reach the end of the training ground to meet the real Thief-Maister, Srail.
Unlocking Ultimate Thief Skills
Meeting Srail is essential for maximizing your Thief build. He provides the "Pilferer's Handbook," which unlocks the powerful "Formless Faint" skill. Before leaving the depths, ensure you explore the side rooms. There is a hallway filled with treasure chests containing high-value items, including the Peltflayers and Thief’s Gaiters, as well as a significant amount of gold.
After you have spoken with Srail and obtained Darragh’s Bill of Arrest, you are ready to return to Vernworth. If you find that Captain Brant is not at the tavern, use a nearby bench to "doze off" until nightfall; he will appear once the time shifts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a Thief to complete this quest?
While you can technically navigate the village as any vocation, playing as a Thief makes the platforming in the Depths significantly easier. The "Footpad" skill is particularly useful for reaching the Gazer's Hood in the platforming room.
What rewards do I get for completing the quest?
Upon returning Darragh’s Bill of Arrest to Captain Brant, you will be rewarded with 7,500 gold, 1,200 XP, and a Dragon’s Gaze.
What if I missed the chests in the Depths?
You can return to the Nameless Village at any time to re-explore the Depths. The chests do not vanish after the quest is completed, so you can backtrack if you were inventory-limited during your first visit.
