Starting the Spellbound Quest

In Dragon's Dogma 2, the "Spellbound" quest is a pivotal side mission for players who favor magic-based vocations. To begin, travel north from the town of Melve. Follow the trails northwest, cross the bridge, and continue north until you reach a small house in the woods known as Eini's Home. Inside, you will encounter a young girl named Trysha arguing with her grandmother, Eini, about her desire to practice forbidden magic.

Once the dialogue concludes, speak to Trysha privately. She will ask you to locate and deliver five specific magic tomes, or "grimoires," to assist her studies. While she requests five, you only need to provide three to progress the quest. However, collecting all five is recommended for a more complete experience and to facilitate other related quests.

Where to Find the Five Grimoires

Locating these tomes requires exploration across Vermund. While some are gifted by NPCs, others are hidden in dangerous dungeons.

  • Towering Earth: Obtained from Magistrate Waldhar in the Vernworth jail. Ensure you have started or completed "The Caged Magistrate" to access him.
  • Fulminous Shield: Purchased from the traveling merchant Dudley for 5,000 Gold. He patrols between Melve, Vernworth, Harve Village, and Checkpoint Rest Town.
  • Let There Be Light: Found in Myrddin’s home at Checkpoint Rest Town. Use the balcony to enter and avoid direct confrontation with Myrddin.
  • Howling Blizzard: Located in the Waterfall Cave, northeast of Borderwatch Outpost. This is a high-level area, so bring a strong party.
  • Nation's Death Knell: Found in the same chest as Howling Blizzard in the Waterfall Cave. A second copy can be obtained by completing the "Tolled to Rest" quest at the Ancient Battleground.

Strategic Tips for Tome Collection

According to player experience, the Waterfall Cave is a dangerous location filled with high-level enemies like chimeras and reanimated skeletons. If you are under-leveled, focus on reaching the ornate chest in the second-floor chamber, grab the books, and retreat immediately. You do not need to defeat every enemy to secure the items.

Furthermore, be aware that the quest The Sorcerer's Appraisal also requires several of these same books. If you wish to complete both quests without choosing one over the other, you can visit Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town to create forgeries of the unique tomes. While this process costs gold, it is the most efficient way to maximize your rewards.

Delivering the Tomes and Finalizing the Quest

Once you have gathered the required books, return to Eini's Home and present them to Trysha. You must manually select the books in the turn-in interface. After handing them over, Trysha will thank you and inform you that she needs time to study.

  1. Give at least three books to Trysha.
  2. Leave the area and pass the time—resting at a nearby campfire for two or more days is sufficient.
  3. Return to Eini's Home to witness the aftermath of Trysha’s magical attempt.
  4. Wait for Trysha to exhaust her magical energy, then grapple her to the ground to end the encounter safely.

Unlocking Maister Skills

The true value of this quest lies in the Maister Skills. After the initial quest conclusion, return to the house after further rest. If you have built a high enough affinity with the NPCs, they will reward you with rare scrolls.

Meteoron (Sorcerer Maister Skill)

Speak to Trysha after the quest is complete and your affinity with her is high. This skill allows for a devastating magical barrage.

Celestial Paean (Mage Maister Skill)

Speak to Eini after the quest is complete and your affinity with her is high. This skill provides an immense buff to your party's stamina and speed.

FAQ

Can I fail this quest if I don't bring all five books?

No, you only need to provide three books to satisfy Trysha's request and progress the story. However, providing more helps ensure you have enough copies for other quests.

What happens if I make a mistake during the final encounter?

If you fail to grapple Trysha, simply leave the area, rest for a few days, and return. The scene will reset, allowing you to try again.
