Getting Started with Lost Rites

Lost Rites are a central feature of the Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon's Dogma 2, offering high-level challenges that test your party composition and combat prowess. These dungeons are distinct from the standard caves found throughout the world, marked by specific icons on your map.

To begin your journey into these trials, you must first unlock access to the expansion content.

  1. Find Bren: Head to the inn in Vernworth at night.
  2. Initiate the Quest: Speak with Bren to discuss Norgan and the Lost Rites.
  3. Obtain the Tool: You will receive the "Proving Ground Compass." This is your primary tool for locating all Lost Rite entrances.
  4. First Clear: You must complete the first Lost Rite dungeon to fully access Norgan and the broader DLC content.

Always keep your Proving Ground Compass ready. Activating it will highlight the locations of nearby Lost Rites, making them difficult to miss as you explore.

Understanding Lost Rites Mechanics

Each Lost Rite is not a standard "clear and loot" dungeon. They are designed to challenge your flexibility as an Arisen by imposing specific restrictions. These conditions vary significantly, and ignoring them makes entering the dungeon impossible.

Common conditions include:

  • Weight Restrictions: Requiring everyone in your party to be "very light."
  • Party Composition: Limiting your party size (e.g., solo or with your main pawn only).
  • Vocation Restrictions: Banning specific vocations (e.g., no magic casters) or requiring you to play as a specific class (e.g., Archer or Magick Archer).

Tip

If you are struggling with a specific condition, such as the "very light" requirement, try unequipping heavy armor or swapping out gear for lighter alternatives. If a dungeon requires no magic casters, ensure your party is fully physical, as you will need to rely on explosive barrels or environmental damage to handle elemental weaknesses.

Navigating the Lost Rites of Vermund

The Vermund region contains four initial Lost Rites. These serve as a great introduction to the difficulty curve of the Dark Arisen expansion.

Devilkin Hollow

The first trial you will likely encounter. It requires the empowered Godsbane Blade to unseal the magical door inside. Expect a mix of standard enemies and a boss encounter.

Daemon's Corral

Located on the east side of Vermund. This dungeon is straightforward to navigate but serves as a step up in difficulty compared to the surrounding wilderness.

Sunken Spire

Found near the Checkpoint Rest Town. This is one of the more accessible dungeons and provides excellent loot for those who can navigate its multi-level structure.

Interminable Corridor

A significant challenge in Vermund. This dungeon requires everyone in your party to have "very light" weight. It is a long gauntlet, so ensure you are adequately leveled before attempting it.

Conquering the Lost Rites of Battahl

Once you move into the Battahl region, the complexity of the dungeons increases. These trials often feature more intricate layouts and boss encounters that require specific strategies.

Mired Conduit

Accessing this requires completing the "Mercy Among Thieves" side quest to open the gate in the Coral Snakes' hideout. It features a notable encounter with the Evil Eye.

Embersand Mine

This dungeon strictly forbids magic casters and elemental buffs. You must rely on physical prowess and environmental items to overcome slimes and other threats.

Shrouded Warren

Located in the desert, this dungeon limits your party to just yourself and your main pawn. It is relatively easy to find but tests your individual combat efficiency.

Precipitous Catacombs

You must be an Archer or Magick Archer to enter. Success here depends on utilizing your ranged abilities to destroy pillars and target enemy weak points.

Wyrmsblood Arena

The final base-game challenge in this region. You will face multiple bosses simultaneously. Use your knowledge of elemental weaknesses to turn these bosses against each other.

Rewards and Upgrades

The primary incentive for clearing these dungeons is the unique gear and the "Offering Flames." Each Lost Rite grants one Offering Flame upon its first completion.

These flames are taken to the Obelisks in Norgan. Each Obelisk corresponds to a specific vocation and offers:

  • Vocation Skills: Unlocking new skills and upgrading existing ones.
  • Stat Upgrades: Permanent stat boosts (like health or vigor) tied to the Obelisk's vocation.
  • Temporary Buffs: A one-day buff that increases the drop rate of specific relics related to that vocation's Obelisk.
  • [ ] First Clear: Ensure you loot the special chest at the end of the dungeon. This is where the unique gear and Offering Flame are located.
  • [ ] Repeat Runs: You can repeat dungeons for XP, gold, and crafting materials (like Brinebeast Ore), though the unique gear does not respawn.
  • [ ] Transmog: Remember that all gear obtained can be used for transmog purposes in Norgan, allowing you to customize your Arisen's appearance regardless of the gear's stats.

FAQ

Can I access the Unmoored World Lost Rites immediately?

No. The three Lost Rites in the Unmoored World are separate from the nine base-game dungeons. The Proving Ground Compass will reveal them once you reach that stage of the game.

Are the dungeons repeatable?

Yes. After the first clear, you can re-enter to farm XP, gold, and materials. However, the unique gear and Offering Flames are one-time rewards per save file.

What if I get stuck in a dungeon?

Most Lost Rites have a designated exit point, usually near the final loot chest, which allows you to teleport out once you have secured your rewards.

Is the gear better than what I have?

Generally, yes. The gear found in these dungeons is designed to be a tier above the surrounding area, making it essential for preparing for the endgame content in Norgan.
